Affordable Health Care - Quick Overview
We believe that every person deserves access to health care. Part of our mission is to provide affordable, accessible health care for the people in our neighborhoods.
Early in our history, we decided that we did not want to be a free clinic. We decided to ask our patients to contribute to the cost of their health care according to their ability to pay.
While affordability is important to us, it is not our highest priority. We balance affordability with quality of care.
We work to make our health care affordable using a number of strategies. Some of these strategies include:
- Offer sliding fees
- Base decisions about treatments and medicine on both effect and cost
- Rely on healthy relationships with our patients as component of effective care rather than resort to defensive medicine
- Recognize that money is not the only reward for work. In addition to paying our staff, we nurture their satisfaction and seek ways to contribute to their sense of security.
We understand that some patients cannot afford to pay any cash toward the cost of their health care. We created a program called More Than Money so that these people can still contribute.
