Job Description - Medical Interpreter/Translator

Mission and Values

The Medical Interpreter/Translator will further the mission and values of MCHCC in his/her role.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist staff in communicating with patients who prefer to communicate in Spanish, in person and over the phone, in a variety of settings (individual and group settings)
  2. Participate in a cross-disciplinary care team, treat clients and team members with care and respect
  3. Complete all final translations for MCHCC materials, as they are needed
  4. Other tasks as they support language services and our shared work at Maple City Health Care Center and Vista Community Health Center

Position Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Work Hours, and Travel Requirements

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Native mastery of English/Spanish oral, aural, and written
  2. Although certificates/studies in interpreting and translation from reputable organizations are strongly preferred, if skills are sufficient, certification will not be required
  3. Attention to detail, strong time management skills, ability to self-organize, and self-monitor
  4. Openness to work with interpreter team to learn together and work towards improved systems and skills
  5. Work hours: typically 35-40 hours a week
  6. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  7. Travel allowance for work-related activity as budgeted

Salary Range and Benefits

  1. Salary as per the employee wage policy; with a typical annual range of $30,000 - $34,000
  2. The regular employee benefit package

Supervisory Relationships

  1. Accountable to the Interpreter Team Coordinator
  2. Will receive a formal review by the Interpreter Team Coordinator, evaluating how she/he is performing within the parameters of this job description. Employees at MCHCC begin their employment with a three-month provisional period. After the provisional, period reviews will occur annually
